It’s been a bit quiet around here as of late – apologies for that! I’m sitting on 7 or 8 new mixes, and I know Sarcastro’s got a couple ready to go as well… however, due to some astonishingly poor experiences with our current host (Netfirms – purposely not hyperlinked because I’m loath to direct any traffic their way), including over two straight weeks of downtime in August and a number of other outages, I’ve decided to switch hosts and start the site over from scratch (being a web developer and all, it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while). So, because of the time spent doing that, in addition to some other projects (including helping my buddy Dave out with X-Ray Magazine – swing by and subscribe!), this site’s been sorely neglected.

So, that being said, it will continue to be neglected until I launch our new site. I’m aiming to do this (somewhat optimistically) by Saturday, October 23rd, which is also our 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! So here’s hoping there’s enough screen time between now and then to get things sorted out.

On more thing – there will be no Soulselecta on Saturday, October 9th – it’s Thanksgiving weekend and Brixton’s will be closed. See you on the 23rd!

Our boy Tutehn has passed us a mix he put together in December for New Years Eve, and because he’s Irish, we’re posting it today in celebration of St Patty’s. This Psy Trance mix is based on the set I played at  Emotion 4 (a party I collaborated on with Project D) – it’s track-for-track the same playlist, with a few additions at the end. It could probably be argued that chunks of it aren’t Psy – some of the tunes are pretty hard and might be closer to hard dance or hard techno, but either way, I think it flows pretty well and there are some filthy basslines. Enjoy!

Two mixes in this post! The first, Future Session 1, is a jungle/dnb set I put together for Futurhythm Radio on CHUO 89.1fm in Ottawa (chuo.fm streaming online) – the weekly jungle show I do with Karl Haze Wednesdays at 9pm EST. It starts off dark and techy and moves into dubwise and ragga. Keep an ear on the two Feyder tunes – he’s an untouchable producer. Pulp Friction transitions from the dark to the ragga sound, and it’s good for a chuckle too ;)

Abnormal Psy-chology is my first foray into the world of Psy-Trance. I put the set together for the DFF DJ competition in Ottawa in Nov 2009 – I tied for first with DJ Coma. The Infected Mushroom tune kills me every time I hear it, and the Ranji cut has a fun little breaks breakdown (for lack of a more creative term) – punchy. It gets pretty dark for the last third-ish, and ends on an interesting note with the Shpongle tune – I dig it. I’ll be playing Psy at Emotion 4 on February 13th – a 2-room party we’re collaborating on with Project D.

This mix flows from minimal techno to techno, to house/electro, to baile funk, with a bit of back and forth and deviation. It’s pretty high energy for the most part, with a nice crawling minimal lead up to start things off. I based some of the selection on a couple sets I played at Mercury Lounge and Lotus Lounge over the past few months, and some minimal I’ve been sitting on for ages.
